IP systems refer to network cameras, this is the latest technology offering a higher degree of flexibility and much higher quality image allowing digital zoom without pixcelation up to 4x magnification.

For new CCTV system installations IP cameras are recommended as the structured cabling system is exactly the same as a standard computer network, the cabling is easily installed along side telephone and computer networking utilising fibre optic links and in some cases wireless bridging for covering long distances.
Recording with a network video recorder (NVR) playback is also over the network on existing PC workstations. As recording is centralised, recorded quality and the advantages and cost savings of using structured CAT5 cabling systems the additional cost benefit is achieved on larger systems or 32 or more cameras. One other major advantage is that where a site may have a quantity of existing analogue cameras these may be encoded and routed to the NVR and either replaced with IP cameras later or simply upgraded to modern analogue cameras depending on the needs of the application.
